Posted by : RetechThe Nueva Ecija 730,000-broiler chicken floor-raising upgrade project, completed in collaboration with Retech, has been finished. Two chicken houses have been built and equipment installed, and chickens are being introduced. The remaining eight chicken houses are also under planned renovation.

Located in Nueva Ecija Province, Philippines, this project is led and funded by a major local agricultural enterprise, which is driving its construction and retrofit implementation. It focuses on the intelligent, standardized cage-rearing upgrade of the traditional broiler floor-rearing model, aiming to resolve the long-standing pain points of local traditional broiler farming - manure handling, environmental hygiene, and disease prevention and control. The project seeks to set a benchmark for intensive regional broiler farming, lead technological upgrading of the province's broiler industry, and drive the comprehensive transformation of Nueva Ecija's broiler sector from extensive floor rearing to an intelligent, green, and efficient cage-rearing model.
This broiler farm conversion project, carried out in partnership with Qingdao RETECH farming, has comprehensively advanced the transformation and upgrading of Nueva Ecija's broiler farming industry toward modernization, intensification, and green, eco-friendly development, achieving the following results:

Capacity per house x number of houses: 73,000 x 10 houses
House dimensions: Philippine standard floor-rearing house dimensions
Poultry equipment type: Automatic H-Type 2200
Retrofit approach: Convert traditional floor-rearing houses into an automated multi-tier cage-rearing system
Project plan: A total of 10 standardized broiler houses are planned. To date, the dismantling, retrofit, equipment installation, commissioning, and handover of the complete cage-rearing systems for 2 houses have been completed, and the third house is currently being delivered.
Equipment supplier: RETECH Farming

Prior to the retrofit:
the houses used the standard local floor-rearing model that had been in place for many years, suffering from a series of long-standing, hard-to-resolve problems - manure accumulation, heavy manual manure-cleaning workloads, strong on-site odors, and rampant flies and mosquitoes;
After conversion:
all houses were equipped with RETECH's multi-tier automated broiler cage-rearing systems, fully complying with Southeast Asian tropical large-scale broiler farm construction and biosecurity standards. They are specifically adapted to Nueva Ecija's hot, humid, and rainy-season climate, with simultaneous upgrades to core supporting systems such as quarantine isolation, longitudinal ventilation, and constant-temperature-and-humidity environmental control.
RETECH's complete solution for the two retrofitted houses includes:

Solution Advantages
The entire process greatly reduces personnel entry into the houses. On one hand, it significantly improves the efficiency of standardized broiler husbandry operations and substantially cuts daily labor costs; on the other hand, fewer people entering the houses lowers the risk of introducing external pathogens, reducing the probability of cross-infection among broilers at the source and improving flock survival rates.
The multi-tier cage structure makes full use of the vertical space within the houses. Without expanding the original buildings or occupying additional land, it greatly increases the total broiler stocking capacity of each house, significantly expanding production capacity within the same building footprint. This helps farms increase output on their existing sites and dilute fixed operating costs, meeting the continuously growing demand of the local Philippine chicken meat market.
Challenges of Chicken Manure Management under the Traditional Floor-Rearing Model
1. Long-term manure accumulation, difficult to clean
Under the traditional local deep-litter floor-rearing model in Nueva Ecija, chicken manure is mixed with litter and accumulates on the house floor over long periods. The cleaning cycle is long and the volume is large, easily giving off a strong, pungent odor continuously;
2. Strong odors that easily breed flies and mosquitoes, causing neighborhood complaints
Manure exposed to the air for long periods continuously breeds large numbers of flies and mosquitoes. This not only worsens the production environment inside the farm, but the disease-carrying insects also increase the risk of disease transmission among the flock. At the same time, odor spreading beyond the farm easily triggers disputes with neighboring residents, constraining the farm's long-term stable operation.
After the retrofit, each tier of broiler cages is fitted with an enclosed automatic manure-removal conveyor belt below it, forming an automatic manure collection and centralized treatment system.
Core Operating Process
Manure generation -> real-time collection by conveyor belt -> automatic transport outside the house -> centralized transfer -> organic fertilizer processing and utilization
Through the automated system, broiler manure can be transported in real time and continuously to a centralized collection area outside the houses, achieving complete separation of manure from the birds and preventing manure from lingering inside the houses.
Core Advantages of the Automated Manure Removal System
1.Controlling odor spread
2.Rapid manure removal, cutting off the breeding medium for flies and mosquitoes
Manure is rapidly removed from the houses, thoroughly cutting off the breeding medium for flies and mosquitoes, and fundamentally improving the internal hygiene of the houses and the overall environmental sanitation of the farm.
3.Centralized collection and resource utilization
The centrally collected chicken manure can also be uniformly transferred for organic fertilizer processing and resource utilization, turning waste into agricultural production raw material, realizing green, circular treatment of farming waste while balancing production with ecological environmental protection.
Adapted to the Philippine climate to stabilize flock growth, it uses RETECH's independently developed RT8200 environmental controller, which coordinates negative-pressure fans, evaporative cooling pads, and air inlet windows to provide the flock with an automatically and integrally regulated, comfortable production environment.
This intelligent environmental control system from RETECH is custom-designed for the Nueva Ecija broiler farm, and its core value lies in:

By stabilizing the house environment, RETECH's intelligent environmental control system can effectively help farms solve the farming challenges brought by the tropical climate, delivering the following benefits:
In response to the Philippine climate - high year-round temperatures, sharp humidity spikes in the rainy season, and large day-night temperature swings - RETECH equipped the retrofitted houses with a customized intelligent environmental control system featuring precise temperature, humidity, and ventilation linkage equipment. Based on the broilers' different growth stages, the system automatically adjusts internal ventilation, temperature, and relative humidity 24 hours a day, continuously maintaining a comfortable and stable growing environment inside the houses, helping the broilers reduce heat stress and maintain normal feeding and activity.
2.Controlling humidity and suppressing pathogen growth
When humidity is too high during the rainy season, the system can promptly adjust internal air circulation and humidity levels, reducing the risk of bacterial proliferation and disease transmission.
A stable environment helps broilers maintain good appetite and promotes uniform growth, thereby improving feeding efficiency and feed conversion ratio (FCR).
4.Reducing mortality and culling rate, increasing farming returns
A healthy and stable growing environment for the flock can reduce mortality and culling caused by disease and stress, further improving the farm's overall economic benefits.
The entire environmental control system is integrated and linked with the cage-rearing, manure-removal, and feeding systems, enabling a single house to be remotely managed by only a small number of personnel - its intelligent management level far surpasses that of local traditional floor-rearing farms.
For the two houses already delivered, RETECH engineers provided on-site guidance for installation, commissioning, and operation training, taking 30 days per house - setting the record for the fastest retrofit in the Philippines. Professional delivery creates a complete farming environment and helps customers succeed.

The project manager visited the farm for inspection and guidance:

Many Philippine farms still use traditional floor-rearing houses, facing issues such as limited space utilization, manure cleaning that depends on manual labor, and unstable indoor humidity and air quality. For already-built old houses, building new from scratch requires high investment, so upgrading on the basis of the existing houses becomes the better choice.
Centered on old-house retrofits, this project provides a replicable retrofit path for large old houses, covering:
This retrofit approach can serve as a reference for local farmers planning to upgrade, helping them assess the feasibility of converting from floor rearing to cage rearing based on house structure, farming scale, and budget.
From an industry perspective, the significance of such retrofit projects lies in driving local broiler farming to gradually move from the traditional, extensive model toward a more standardized and modern direction. RETECH provided a complete solution in this collaboration.
